You may
have taken part in our recent poll which asked for your
opinion about the most important factor when applying for a
credit card. To view the results please

It’s no
surprise to me that 40% of you think that a 0% offer is the
most valuable feature of a credit card, after all we love
the idea of paying no interest at all on our outstanding
debts or on our new purchases. Fortunately there are plenty
of great 0% credit cards to choose from, but how do you know
if your application is likely to be accepted?
Whilst
only 10% of people who took part in our poll thought
likelihood to be accepted is important, it pays to know your
credit score in advance because this will give you a better
idea about your credit worthiness and the types of cards you
should be applying for. That’s why moneysupermarket.com
created Smart Search since it helps you find cards
that best fit your credit profile and therefore increases
the likelihood of your application being accepted.
Most of
the best 0% credit cards are reserved for people ‘excellent’
or ‘good’ credit profiles such as
MBNA Platinum Plus,
Virgin Credit Card and
Barclaycard Platinum.
All of these cards offer 0% on balance transfers for 12
months or more. If you want to pay no interest on your
shopping then look no further than
Sainsbury’s Bank
Platinum which offers 0% for 10 months on new purchases.
For those
of us with ‘not so great’ credit profiles, there are cards
available designed for people who may have had credit
problems in the past or for people who need a credit card to
start to build a better credit rating. The interest rates
are typically higher than 0% cards however like most credit
cards you still benefit from around 56 days interest free if
you pay your balance in full each month. Cards suitable for
people with lower credit ratings include Barclaycard
Initial, Capital One Classic and
Vanquis Blue
If you
want to see all the cards suitable for your credit profile,
then spend a minute on
Smart Search – it’s free to
use and no ‘footprint’ is left on your credit report.
